Head of Human Resources and Organisational Development

Serving a population of over 300,000 people, Stockport Council is ambitious and forward thinking. We have a radical and exciting £1billion programme of investment in our town centre currently underway. We were the winners of the 2019 MJ Award for Digital Transformation for our work to become a radically digital council and to support our residents to get online. “Stockport Family,” our integrated children’s service, is nationally recognised. And we are currently implementing our new adults social care operating model, which is transforming the way we work with our partners and service users.

In line with the council’s values, we are putting the people of Stockport at the heart of everything we do, working with our partners in Stockport and across Greater Manchester to ensure our residents are healthy, happy and can live their best lives possible.

To take us on the next step of this exciting transformation journey, we are looking for an inspiring leader who will be key to delivering our ambitious change and transformation agenda.

You will be responsible for developing an innovative people strategy that embeds Stockport Council’s core values and ensures a diverse and highly engaged workforce. You will have a track record in creating the necessary workforce agility and capacity for the opportunities ahead, including our journey to be a radically digital council.

You will also shape our employment practices to ensure that our workforce represents the community we serve and utilises our role as one of the borough’s biggest employers to address organisational priorities on equality and inclusion.

This is an exciting role in which you can make a significant and positive difference to our residents and communities. Whilst local government experience would be a bonus, we are most interested in your track record of leading the people element of transformation in people focussed organisations. You will also be CIPD qualified with a strong understanding of policy, procedure and employment law.

To arrange an informal discussion about this role please e-mail Fiona Mulheron Fiona.Mulheron@stockport.gov.uk or call 0161 474 4545.
