The Place

Maldon District lies within easy reach of London and yet, according to The Times, is England’s ‘best countryside location.’ It combines very attractive countryside with 75 miles of coastline, vibrant market towns and historic villages.

It is, however, not a ‘sleepy backwater.’ The District is experiencing unprecedented growth and the Council is balancing the provision of significant levels of housing, employment and infrastructure with the protection of the rural and coastal character, whilst encouraging an ‘open for business’ approach towards attracting inward investment and economic development.

The Role

Reporting in to the Director of Resources, an exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Council’s IT Department. As the IT Manager, you will be leading and implementing a new corporate IT strategy to innovate and improve the IT service provided by the Council. You will also be providing clear leadership and guidance to the current IT team to aid in the successful delivery of the IT services.

You will be working closely with the Corporate Leadership Team as well as committee members to define the corporate IT strategy which you will then deliver with the assistance of your team. You and your team will work with services across the Council to ensure the most effective systems and resources are utilised and oversee projects from design, development to completion which will innovate and improve our service delivery. You will be managing both the IT budget and resources on a number of IT projects which will all contribute to the overall success of the IT strategy.

Part of this IT strategy will be to ensure current and emerging legislation is met as well as guiding the council on best practice when it comes to Information technology and IT service delivery. Your knowledge of new and emerging technologies will be key in ensuring you stay ahead of the curve to ensure the councils IT offering is current and fit for purpose. In order to be successful in this role, you will have an excellent understanding of IT infrastructures; have experience of leading and guiding IT teams as well as experience of implementing a successful IT strategy.

You will also have experience of managing successful IT projects throughout the full life cycle with control over budget and resource. With a user base of circa 230, the council is keen to recruit an articulate and adaptable IT manager with impeccable people skills at all levels who will create and implement a vision and strategy for ICT. Candidates will have managed technical environments with Cloud technology, VM Ware Servers as well as PSN compliance, data and cyber security issues and subsequent compliance. Provision and monitoring of annual IT budget and monitor & control of expenditure. Further key professional attributes include strong line management.

In return we are offering a salary from £48,963 - £54,754 per annum, including generous relocation package and excellent benefits.

The Council is fortunate to have a committed and focused workforce which consistently demonstrates a flexible ‘one team’ approach and it will be looking to you to provide strong and decisive leadership in this time of change. We want to hear from you if you have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and believe implicitly in transformation and putting our residents first.
