Assistant Chief Executive
BIRMINGHAM IS CHANGING • BE PART OF THE CHANGE
The organisation’s vision to be a ‘Council of the Future’ has been developed closely with members and our partners across the City, and provides an exciting and challenging view for the growth of Birmingham, where every child, citizen and place matters.
The vision has been designed to develop our people and communities and to focus on our priorities of children, housing, jobs and skills and health.
This vision forms the backdrop to the role of Assistant Chief Executive.
The role of an Assistant Chief Executive is often misunderstood. Here in Birmingham, its focus is clear.
You will operate at the heart of the Corporate Leadership Team and deputise for the Chief Executive, focusing on policy and the city’s vital partnerships.
Your role will cut across all parts of Council life, working with Members and Officers in driving strategic policy change, translating that strategic vision and priorities into operational plans, forming strategic alliances, and developing effective working relationships on a local, regional and national basis, especially on issues to do with the West Midlands regional agenda.
To be successful you will be comfortable in a role where business as usual means having to respond to priorities in the Council and the city as they arise and the postholder will need to be flexible and have the intellectual and analytical capacity to get to grips with complex issues at speed, having the credibility to represent the Chief Executive at a senior level and in pressurised situations.
