A unique person to join an ambitious and innovative council

The Highland Council is at the forefront of the delivery of integrated children’s services in Scotland and the UK.

We are unique in Scotland in having a Lead Agency arrangement for the integration of Health and Social Care and we have a reputation for leading the way in terms of partnership working.

The Highlands offer one of the most distinctive lifestyle choices available anywhere in the world. It is one of the most attractive places to live, work and socialise. The area offers diversity of geography, blessed with outdoor opportunities and a rich culture with a guaranteed friendly welcome.

As the Director, you will lead and implement strategic and corporate objectives in line with the Highland Council’s Priorities and Values. You will lead the Service to achieve improvements in performance and value for money to citizens.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and innovative authority that believes passionately in services for children, and will support you to deliver the practice to make a difference for children and families.

We are committed to giving every child and young person in Highland the best possible start in life; to enjoy being young; and to be supported to develop as confident, capable and resilient people, able to fully achieve their potential.

We want our children to be safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included.

The Care and Learning Service is responsible for: Education; Children’s Services; Additional Support Needs, Criminal Justice; Commissioning of Adult Services from NHS Highland and Monitoring of Services provided by Highlife Highland.

The Highland Council has a comprehensive relocation package which may be available to the successful candidate. Prior to confirming appointment, we will require the successful candidate to become a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
