We’re looking for a new Corporate Director for Regeneration and Economic Growth to help deliver on our commitment to make Wakefield a place where people thrive, businesses succeed and visitors are welcome.

Wakefield is located at the heart of the UK and is home to over 335,000 people.

Its deep-rooted heritage is just one of the things that set it apart as a great place to live, work and invest.

It has the 30th largest economy in England and is one of the fastest growing economies in the Leeds City Region, which itself is the biggest economic area outside of London and integral to the Northern Powerhouse.

The Council’s business-friendly approach and reputation, along with exceptional road and train links, have seen us attract investment and growth from a wide range of global brands including Haribo, Coca-Cola and Burberry.

With a growing reputation as the creative heart of Yorkshire, Wakefield boasts an enviable cultural offer including two internationally renowned arts destinations –

The Hepworth Wakefield and The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 2 Super League Rugby teams, a plethora of heritage sites including Sandal Castle and Pontefract Castle and Xscape - a retail and leisure destination that is ranked as one of the top 10 most visited destinations in the UK.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, and as a member of the corporate management team, you will have a lead role in improving the lives of residents by ensuring that our economic growth is inclusive, benefits all our residents and helps reduce poverty and delivers for all our communities.

The right candidate will have exceptional communication and leadership skills and a proven track record of forming and maintaining effective partnership relationships.

You will also have experience of successfully leading large-scale regeneration projects, negotiating complex commercial contracts as well as leading transformational change in back-office and frontline services.
