This year, Blackburn with Darwen is celebrating 20 years since becoming a unitary authority and we have built an enviable reputation for service excellence, innovation and sound resource management.

Our people services have a proud record of achievement supporting adults, children and communities in the borough, with a particular focus on the most deprived or vulnerable. We do this by promoting independence, health, wellbeing and through safeguarding from harm.

This is an exciting time to join Blackburn with Darwen and we are currently seeking a number of Heads of Service following a recent review of management roles.

In children’s services, we are very proud of our ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement in 2017 which recognised our ability to support all children and young people in the borough, with a particular focus on the most deprived or vulnerable.

We are currently recruiting to a new Director of Children’s Services and Education and we are positive about our future, with clear and ambitious plans, supported by a stable and highly collaborative senior management team.

We pride ourselves on building good networks and working relationships and these roles will also work with health colleagues across Lancashire and help the council shape it’s relationships as part of the Sustainable Transformation Plan.

You will work with the newly appointed Director, to lead the drive for education excellence in schools and in other settings across the Borough.

You will engage with Schools, Partners, and colleagues to ensure that children and young people have access to the highest quality of educational opportunities.

We are looking for someone able to demonstrate substantial leadership experience at a senior level that will be part of the management team and deputise for the Director when necessary on education matters.

You will have experience of working in education or children’s services and will strive for educational excellence and need in schools, working closely with other services to enhance the life chances and opportunities for children and young people in the borough.

For an informal discussion about these roles please contact Linda Clegg, DCS on 01254 666435. More detailed information on our roles and how to apply can be found on our website https://www.blackburn.gov.uk/jobs
