Head of Service

Full time

Hammersmith & Fulham is a borough on the up. We’ve achieved significant success and innovated in the delivery of high quality services. We are looking for outstanding individuals to form an amazing new team - people with drive, determination and an open mind - to help deliver our vision for Hammersmith & Fulham.

With our brand-new ‘Our People’ strategy, we are putting our employee experience at the heart of our ambitions. This is a place where you can truly demonstrate your ability to transform an organisation and help create a world-class workforce.

These are challenging, yet exciting, times and this post will put the successful candidate at the very heart of what is to come.

The Head of HR Operations is pivotal in our new HR Service. This influential role will be instrumental in changing how the council delivers its promise to our staff - acting as catalyst for improving how local government operates and the way it is perceived as a place to work. The ultimate goal is to become far more people-focused as an organisation, in fact we aim to be the best organisation to work for within five years. This will mean moving away from the ‘traditional’ approach to management, towards a coaching model and an emotionally intelligent way of getting the best out of people.

This position offers a rare opportunity to build, shape and develop a HR service from the start, as services are brought back in-house. Our new team will enhance the offer already provided from our passionate and ambitious service - harnessing skills that already exist, together with new areas of expertise which will see the team double in size and provide an impetus to advance organisational change.

 About you

First and foremost, you will be an emotionally intelligent leader able to quickly gain personal credibility and trust through your management style and the way you develop those around you and drive constant improvement.

You will be somebody who thrives on change and innovation, whilst grounded in the reality that delivery matters. You’ll have the tenacity and drive to make things happen at pace to deliver tangible benefits for the organisation and connect with our community, businesses and residents.

You will understand what a modern and progressive HR service looks like – as well as how to get there.  You will be outcome focused, with the ability to take people across the council with you.

Shaping a HR service from the start in an organisation as diverse and complex as Hammersmith and Fulham does not come without its challenges. We believe the right person for this role will be energised and enthused by this.

 About us

Hammersmith & Fulham is a great place to live and do business - there are many exciting developments taking place, creating a prosperous future. But, we want that prosperity to be shared by everyone, not just the few. That means ensuring that local residents benefit from new homes, jobs, transport and environment improvements. Most importantly, we want our young people to be prepared for the rewarding careers being generated here.

We’re determined to lead the way in council service reform, achieving even better results and outcomes for our residents, visitors and businesses. ‘Our People’ is a strategy setting out a clear commitment to developing our staff to achieve this ambition.

To show our commitment and drive, we’ll join the hundreds of organisations aiming to get on the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list. We can only do this if our employees genuinely feel, and say, it’s a great place to work.

There couldn’t be a better time for you to join us and advance your career in what is truly a great council to work for that’s on an incredibly exciting journey.
