Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking a motivated graduate wishing to pursue a career in transport strategy and planning, and to support the exciting growth agenda in Cambridgeshire. 

Cambridgeshire is an extremely popular place to work and live with a successful economy which is recognised both nationally and internationally. 

The rate of new jobs created, the scale of business innovation and the inward investment and development pressures and demand for new homes, plus other factors, not least the world class universities and science and innovation parks, have all contributed to a remarkably strong Cambridge sub-region. However growth in Cambridgeshire is not evenly distributed with some parts of the County having weaker local economies, lower incomes, rural isolation and limited infrastructure. Across the County, transport therefore has a key role to play in helping to address these issues.

This exciting Graduate Transport Planner position combines working both on the assessment of the transport implications of new development across the County, and on wider transport policy issues. This will involve working with our Transport Assessment Team in the Growth and Economy Service, and Policy Teams within the Transport Infrastructure Policy and Funding Service, where you will provide professional transport planning support to senior and principal Transport Officers.

You will have a degree or equivalent in a transport-related discipline. Some knowledge of transport policy and funding issues, together with transport assessment techniques and the operation of the planning system, is required but an enthusiasm for this area of work and willingness to learn and develop your knowledge and experience in the role will also be vital.

In addition to the technical transport planning aspect of the role, you will need to support other officers in working closely with our key partner organisations including District Councils and a variety of teams from across the County Council. Good communication skills, both speaking and in writing, are therefore important attributes.

The role makes an important contribution the work of our busy transport teams so an ability to work within a team environment is also important. 2 years fixed term, with scope for extension.
