Following an internal promotion we are looking for a talented communications professional to join our team for 9 months. This opportunity may be available on a secondment basis. 

Working in the council’s Communications team, and specifically in the Media & External Relations function, you will work with wide a range of staff across the organisation, councillors, and Camden / London / national stakeholders, to communicate the work that the council is doing to achieve Camden 2025 priorities for the people who live, work and visit the borough.

You will work with the team to forward plan and develop engaging and evidence-based campaigns on behalf of the organisation, producing digital and hard-copy content and using a range of communications channels (such as media, social media, website and print) to reach target audiences.

You will play a key role in both shaping and managing the 24/7 media cycle, dealing with media enquiries about a wide range of subject matters, including breaking and crisis news, and will advise staff and councillors on handling.

This is a great opportunity for a creative, skilled communicator to be part of a team that promotes and defends the work of the council and campaigns on the issues that are important to Camden.

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong writing skills, initiative and creativity
  • Excellent understanding of communications channels and reaching key audiences
  • Capable of working, sometimes under pressure, to support the council when under intense media scrutiny. 
  • Ability to influence key senior decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant degree, or equivalent experience.
