We are seeking a full time, permanent Family Worker in our Youth Offending Service (YOS). The YOS is part of Children’s Services supporting children and families through challenging times and ensuring safeguarding, public protection, community concerns and the best outcomes for children and young people are at the forefront of everything we do.
Bexley YOS is part of a successful partnership and at the heart of developments to prevent crime and promote the inclusion of children and young people in Bexley. The service is multi-agency and co-ordinates and delivers all youth justice services and referrals from Police or Courts.
This is a new specialist role within the YOS and the post holder will deliver an intensive, targeted, high quality whole-family service for Bexley families whose children are at risk of entering, or are in, the youth justice system.
The post holder will need to be experienced in supporting parent/carer(s) of adolescents and those living with complex situations, which adversely affect their ability to effect sustained change, so as to improve family outcomes and better support children within the youth justice setting. This role requires the post holder to have experience of multi-agency working to support families with transferable skills to work flexibly across a range of specialisms in addition to youth justice, e.g. parental domestic abuse, parental mental health, parental substance misuse, family trauma and children at risk of school exclusion.
We are a high performing service and welcome candidates who share our drive to help parents, carers and families overcome difficulties to achieve and succeed. You should hold a relevant parenting practice qualification – preferably both - and have experience of working with children and families within the field of youth justice including Court, Appropriate Adult, out of court and prevention services. It is important that you have a creative approach, plenty of energy, initiative and the ability to forge effective partnerships with other agencies.
