Assistant Director Environment Services
Assistant Director Environment Services
Warwickshire County Council
We are looking for four high performing Assistant Directors with salary ranges from £84,038 - £109, 367 + relocation package
This role will focus on the delivery of high performing environment
and infrastructure services.
One of England’s most vibrant counties, Warwickshire has a cultural scene to die for – while Stratford-upon-Avon is world renowned as Shakespeare country, Nuneaton is inextricably linked with George Eliot. The county takes in historic market towns and villages, post-industrial communities and bustling urban areas on the fringes of Birmingham. Its excellent connectivity and booming economy – Warwickshire is part of one of England’s strongest local enterprise partnerships – have made it a crucial part of the regional economy. But with those contrasts come challenges and Warwickshire County Council has embarked on a transformation programme to ensure it’s equipped to tackle them head on.
As part of a restructure of its senior leadership team, the council is recruiting four new assistant directors in order to bring a more strategic focus to the way it operates. The shift is designed to bring a much clearer focus on outcomes and priorities through commissioning and delivery, says Chief Executive (Designate), Monica Fogarty. ‘We want to make sure directors have the space to spend time thinking strategically about the place and what
our communities need,’ she says. ‘This is a tremendous place to live and work and the economy is very strong. For example, we have an unemployment rate that’s less than half the national average. ‘But it’s not all leafy and affluent and there are areas that need more support.’ The assistant director for education services will work to strengthen the Warwickshire family of schools and ensure all children have the opportunity to go to a good or outstanding school. Their assistant director for environment services will be tasked with ensuring key public-facing areas such as waste management and highways maintenance are of the highest quality. The assistant director for enabling services will be responsible for the council’s ‘backbone’ of support around areas such as IT, HR and property Meanwhile, the assistant director for people commissioning will play a critical role in reshaping adult and children’s services with partners across health and social care to reduce demand and shift the emphasis towards prevention and early intervention.
All of the roles offer an opportunity for post-holders to think differently about service delivery and bring about genuine innovation, says Monica. ‘We know where we are going and how we want to get there, so we’re looking for people who can come in and deliver our change programme. We want dynamic, self-starting decision makers who can innovate, be team players and form strong relationships within the organisation and with our partners.’
She says they will find the council offers a supportive environment with excellent relationships between officers and members and political stability with councillors across the spectrum working together constructively. ‘We all work well together as a team. We tend to find that once people come here they stay because it’s a great place to be and Warwickshire offers such a range of opportunities.’
All offer the opportunity to do things differently and push traditional boundaries. If you have transformational leadership experience and the desire to make a real impact in Warwickshire, we would like to hear from you.
Closing date for applications – 12 noon, 12th November 2018.
