Senior Policy Officer c.£36 – £40k (commensurate with experience)
Central London (some flexibility) Ref: 9374

Solace is a highly-respected voice on the major issues facing public services. We provide powerful and influential contributions that resonate within and beyond local government, on issues from affordable housing and social care, to public service leadership and the implications of Brexit for local communities.

This exciting role in a small and energetic team will significantly accelerate your policy career. Reporting to our Head of Policy, Piali Das Gupta, you’ll work regularly and closely with the Solace President and Policy Board, whose members include the leading chief executives and innovators in local government. We’ll expect you to contribute effectively and confidently in these settings, and we’ll expect you to take the argument to valued colleagues within the local government sector, central government, and the wider public service network.

While your most recent role may not necessarily be in public policy development, you need a deft understanding of how public policy works. Strong candidates will have an extensive and meaningful track record at the business end of public service, preferably in local government. However, comparable experience in a related sector – such as health, housing or police – may well have given you the skillset we’re looking for. Candidates need excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including writing and presenting), and the confidence to establish productive and mutual relationships with a range of stakeholders, particularly at senior level.

We place great importance on offering regular and creative professional development opportunities, and (although the office is in Millbank) we’re open to proposals for flexible working. And with exceptional levels of exposure to some of the most challenging and interesting people and ideas in the field, you’ll be pleasantly surprised how high you can aim when you’re ready to move on to the next stage of your career.

Closing date: 19 November 2018.  Interviews: 26/27 November 2018.
