We are seeking a Planning Compliance Officer to join our busy planning enforcement team. Enforcement is a key element of the Public Protection Service and we are looking for a Planning Compliance Officer to help deliver the aims and ambitions of the Council.

This is a full time post assisting the Principal Enforcement Officer in the delivery of an effective and efficient planning enforcement service.

Key duties will include: 

  • Proactive action to ensure compliance with conditions imposed on planning permissions and to monitor developments to ensure compliance with approvals.
  • Investigate allegations and enquiries of breaches of planning control
  • Manage and coordinate site visits
  • Deal with enquiries from developers, architects, members of the public, & elected Members
  • Drafting and serving formal notices
  • Drafting witness statements

The Planning Compliance Officer needs to provide a high level service for the investigations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.  You will be highly motivated with good negotiation skills to investigate and resolve breaches of planning control. You will provide planning enforcement advice to Members and customers. You will also have excellent IT skills and be able to produce and understand reports and Legal Documents. Knowledge of planning legislation & enforcement principles and procedures would be an advantage but it not essential, as full training will be provided. You may on occasions have to give evidence at court or at appeal hearings.

The successful candidate will manage their own caseload. We are looking for someone with organisational and time management skills, with a commitment to customer care.  You will need good investigative skills, have the ability to read plans and drawings, and prepare and present information effectively in writing and orally. The successful candidate would be expected to display an enthusiastic outlook and play a positive role in the team.
