Rugby is one of the fastest growing towns in the country and the fastest in the West Midlands with a range of high-quality housing and commercial developments on the go. This brings great opportunities to grow our local services for our residents. Rugby Borough Council is in a strong financial position and ready to face the challenges ahead to achieve improved and increased services.

We have managed to raise our profile and performance in recent years. We received a glowing corporate peer review assessment and were proud to become the first district council to have been awarded "Excellent" against the Equality Framework for Local Government. We have recently retained our accreditation.

We have adopted a new Corporate Strategy, with the overarching priorities to:

• Provide excellent, value for money services and sustainable growth
• Achieve financial self-sufficiency by 2020
• Enable our residents to live healthy, independent lives

This post will play a key role in the delivery of these priorities.  You will provide support to the Head of Corporate Resources and act as the Council’s Deputy Section 151 Officer. Direct management of the Council’s day to day financial activities will be in your hands.

You’ll be a CCAB qualified accountant with significant experience of working in a professional finance environment and supervising finance staff.

You’ll be a good motivator with a passion for continuous improvement and development of both staff and the service as a whole.

Strong communication skills will be required to help senior management, officers and councillors understand what may often be complex financial issues. The Financial Services Manager must therefore be both confident and comfortable working in what may often be a highly challenging environment.

The person we are looking for will need to be an enthusiastic, dynamic, adaptable and experienced officer who can make a major contribution to the achievement of the Council’s priorities.

We have repeatedly shown that we are ready and able to embrace the changes that are essential to our future progress and we now have a vacancy for another energetic, proactive and determined key player to join our team.

For an informal discussion about this role, please call Mannie Ketley, our Head of Corporate Resources on 01788 533416.
