The Post

In response for a demand of our low cost funeral service and increasing numbers of parish (pauper) funerals, Brent Council has developing its own in house funeral service, which has a growing demand. We now need to expand the team to meet the future needs and maintain a 24/7 service.

The Funeral Assistants will support the funeral director in arranging funerals. This includes taking people into our care (includes out of hours), preparing the deceased and ensuring the best quality service is provided to customers.

The post holder will carry out all aspects of a funeral including collection of the deceased, preparation of bodies and dressing, completion of documentation, meeting families, ensuring and undertaking the funeral at crematoria or cemeteries.

The Person

The person will need previous experience in funeral services including collections, burials and cremations, dealing with sensitively with the relatives of those that come to our care and preparing the bodies.

An attention to detail and an ability to accurately record information it critical to the work. The person must be able to be to handle and prepared the deceased for their funeral, to make up coffins and transport the bodies to the final place or rest. The person must be able to deal with the emotional and sometimes unpleasant elements of the work.

You must be prepared to work unsocial hours and be on the on-call rota duty team.

The person must be flexible with their time to meet customer need and able to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and lowering coffins and working in all weather conditions.

Although the post has unpleasant elements it the role can be highly rewarding and there can be great job satisfaction from confidence of the job well done and the thanks from families
