Extremism is one of the greatest challenges the country faces and local authorities have a core role to play in building communities that are more resilient and tackling the harms extremists cause.
This Home Office grant-funded post will help strengthen our work in this area and support national work to build partnerships with local communities and groups. As the specialist Advisor, you will contribute to the development of relevant policies and procedures. You will project manage specific home office funded prevent projects. Providing high quality policy advice and analysis to councillors, executive members and officers and our partners to either address or ensure prevention of extremist activity in the borough.
You will develop, oversee and drive the implementation of the prevent delivery plan. The prevent delivery plan includes priority activities to address local risks that have been identified and require urgent action. In this role you will develop and maintain effective working relationships with a full range of stakeholders including Home Office, police, other local authority Prevent Coordinators, regional HE/FE and regional health Prevent co-ordinators,
You will be expected to build up an extensive understanding of the issues and challenges in your local area, lead on identifying mainstream voices and provide support to groups countering extremism in all its forms. You will need to have excellent communication and influencing skills and will be expected to represent the council at various internal and external meetings, working closely with the local community, senior council officers and elected councillors, as well as central Government.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a current understanding of the government Prevent strategy and the Camden approach to implementation. You will have knowledge of relevant legislation including Counter Terrorism and Security Act and Prevent Duty.
We are looking for someone with the ability to work across departments and organisations to support strategic development, delivering multi-agency projects that have measurable impacts.
You will be able to present clear and compelling arguments and complex information verbally and in writing and in appropriate and accessible ways. You will also have experience of working with multiple stakeholders, including elected Members and other senior officials.
The successful candidate must be willing to obtain security clearance. The Home Office will arrange this. This Role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
