The ESOL Advice Service works across the borough, from community centres to corporate settings, to help second language adult learners from all backgrounds to find an English course that’s suitable for their level and needs.
We have an opportunity for an experienced ESOL Advice Service Adviser with a high level of attention to detail to join our multi-disciplinary team. The main purpose of the role is to deliver ESOL advice sessions within a variety of settings including community venues. ESOL advice entails carrying out ESOL initial assessments using criteria in the National ESOL Core Curriculum, and placing learners into suitable provision. The role will also include public facing marketing activities, presenting the service offer to potential learners and referral organisations and engagement activities as well as wider advice, guidance and teaching mixed level conversation sessions for learners waiting for a class as appropriate.
Some sessions will be held in the evenings and the successful candidate will be expected to attend these sessions as part of their role. The service runs in term time only so annual leave must be taken during school holidays.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.
To be considered for this post the ideal candidate will have gained a qualification such as a Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate in TESOL alongside a relevant post graduate qualification such as an ESOL PGCE, PGDE or a DELTA. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator who possess previous demonstrable experience of building relationships with community organisations and businesses across the borough in order to set up bespoke advice sessions and to expand the numbers of learners and minority communities accessing ESOL provision, and the number of centres hosting onsite ESOL advice sessions.
