Homeless Team Apprenticeship

Housing / Property Management Level 3 Apprenticeship. 
Salary range: £15,000 p.a. inc. 
Contract: Fixed term (18 Months) 
Start date: March 2019
Hours of work: 36 hours per week 
Location: Civic Centre and other locations from time to time

The Role

The apprentice will work in the Single Homelessness Team focusing on preventing homelessness for single people and childless couples who approach the Council in housing need. 

The post holder will gain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedures on homelessness and to provide innovative advice and solutions when dealing with complex and difficult cases. 

Key functionalities

Be responsible for the delivery of intensive specialist support to single and childless couples who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. This will include: 

  • Interviewing applicants that approach the Council in housing needs, to determine actions that can be taken to resolve their homelessness issues. 
  • Engaging individuals in the borough experiencing a housing crisis and managing their expectations in relation to the private rented property market in order to make the decision for themselves.
  • Manage and administer a case load including outreach work.
  • To maintain detailed knowledge of the homelessness legislation, case law and government guidance concerning the Council’s statutory duties. 

You will gain hands-on experience of homelessness and housing by working as part of a team and assisting in the delivery of a quality service to vulnerable individuals.

Simultaneously undertaking a comprehensive study programme towards the Level 3 in Housing / Property Management Apprenticeship. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills which will be an asset to the council and your career. Our apprenticeship scheme offers significant assistance with training and provides the opportunity to improve skills for future career opportunities. 

The Person

This is a front line role so we are looking for confident and friendly individuals ready to make a difference for our customers. Keen to learn, you will demonstrate good communication skills, an understanding of good customer service and an interest in a career within Housing.

You will also need to show your interest in local government and the delivery of public services. We will also be looking for a flexible and positive approach to work.
 

Qualifications required

Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

Good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.
