Transform local government services through IT, putting citizens first

This is a defining moment. For the people of Birmingham, for the Council - and you. Join us now and you’ll build a real legacy, helping us to shape a better city for all.

The opportunity

We’re on a journey of real change, growth and confidence in the future. We’re hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games, so we’re set to take our place on the international stage and make the most of the opportunities this will bring to our wonderfully diverse communities. This is one of a number of influential new senior roles for collaborative people, motivated by doing what’s right for our city and residents. Together, we’ll make Birmingham an even better place to live and thrive in.

The role

Joining as part of a new streamlined leadership team, you’ll inspire people across the city council to improve and transform services in a sustainable way. With responsibility for a portfolio of services including Customer Services, Professional Support Services, ICT & Digital Services and Revenues &  Benefits, you’ll contribute to strategic business planning and management, and ensure we deliver on the needs of a 21st century city. The transformation of ICT and Digital and their integration with core infrastructure functions such as HR and Finance will be key to your success.  It’s all about identifying, driving and securing opportunities to maximise service delivery for a high-quality customer experience.

This post is at the heart of the Council Management Team and deputises for the Chief Executive, as and when required.

The person

With experience of leading change in a complex organisation, you’ll have delivered digital, IT and customer-facing services using modern digital and analytical tools. This should include a good grasp of IT governance and cybersecurity issues in a cloud-based environment.  You’ll need good understanding or the statutory and regulatory responsibilities of local government, and the ability to strategically manage finance within challenging budgets. You’ll combine this with business acumen, entrepreneurial flair and the ability to innovate. The pace will be rapid so you’ll need to be focused on delivery, but as priorities may change, flexibility and adaptability are also important.
