In Durham, our people are our strength, our inspiration, our advantage

The Role

As one of the biggest councils in the country, with stable leadership and a proud tradition of delivering strong services, Durham County Council is facing the future with confidence. In our first 10 years as a unitary council we have achieved a great deal. Our success has been delivered through our great people and strong leadership, as well as creative thinking, partnership working and a sheer passion for what we do.

A key priority for us is the safety, health, wellbeing and education of our children and young people. We are aware of the challenges we face, and we are making good progress on many fronts. We are now looking to recruit a new Corporate Director of Children and Young People’s Services to help us move to ‘good’ and then ‘outstanding’. You will be supported by three recently appointed heads of service, a dedicated group of staff, and Members and senior officers across the council who fully support the agenda for change.

To help us reach our goals, we are looking for candidates with a track record of success in children’s services who can continue our transformation through fresh ideas and determination. We also require an individual who can work corporately, as you will play a major role in our improvement journey over the coming years. It is an exciting time to join Durham – so if you feel you have the drive, skills and experience to make a difference in one of the most dynamic, beautiful and ambitious counties in the country, we want to hear from you.
