Derbyshire County Council is embarking on a new approach to the way we deliver services. To provide the 21st century services local people want and need we must rise to the challenge by thinking and doing things differently, by not shirking bold decisions or change, and by being commercially-minded in seeking the best results out of every penny we spend. We call this being an Enterprising Council.
Derbyshire County Council is looking for an enthusiastic, enterprising and experienced laboratory manager to manage the County Councils ‘in house’ highways laboratory based at Ambergate.
The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent management skills, an in depth knowledge of construction materials testing, together with a range of onsite client testing requirements, preferably with a relevant engineering or technical background and have a track record of running a successful commercial operation.
The principle work of the highways laboratory, comprises the testing of materials used in the construction and maintenance of the County’s 5,300km highway network, however we are keen to develop a more commercial approach to marketing our laboratory services.
The Highways Service is an ‘early start’ on the journey to an Enterprising Council, and this role will play a critical part in shaping how the Highways Laboratory delivers on that challenge.
Should you wish to discuss this opportunity then please contact either Neill Bennett 01629 538659 or Pat Hough 01629 532854.
