The Role

This is an exciting time to join Rotherham and make a real difference. We are looking for an outstanding Assistant Director who will bring a track record of delivering and transforming a range of services, helping to progress the Council further on its future journey.

We’re seeking a leader who can meet the challenge, through sustainable, innovative and creative ways of working whilst having a passion for service excellence in order to create an outstanding service to the people, businesses and communities of Rotherham. Effective partnership working both internally and externally will be critical to the role and so you will need to be able to provide high level challenge and bring negotiating and influencing skills to communicate with stakeholders to explain proposals and gain consensus to desired change.

As Assistant Director, Planning, Regeneration and Transport, you will play a lead role in driving the economic growth of the Borough by working with our partners on the Business Growth Board to deliver the 10 year Economic Growth Plan and delivery on key, major regeneration projects including the Town Centre Masterplan delivery (e.g. Forge Island), Gulliver’s, employment and skills, Advanced Manufacturing Park/Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District (AMID), transport interventions, property/Asset Management and playing an influential role in the Sheffield City Region.

We will also ask you to drive forward service excellence across a broad range of important and vital services such as Planning and Building Control, Regeneration and Economic Development (RiDO), Transport and Infrastructure, Asset Management (incl. Corporate Landlord) as well as Facilities Services (inc. Cleaning services, Schools Catering, Caretaking and School Crossing Patrols). Under your leadership, your teams will help deliver economic growth and regeneration for the Borough and delivering value for money services whilst improving outcomes for our residents.

With experience of leading a diverse management team in a similarly complex organisation, you’ll have also successfully controlled large budgets and be able to actively demonstrate delivery of high performing, efficient services. You will know how to apply risk management while setting strategies, and have a thorough understanding of the legislation, issues and agendas facing local government.

So if you want to flourish in an innovative, honest and straight-forward culture, managing change to improve outcomes for the people of Rotherham, we would love to hear from you.
