The Rights of Way Officer role is based within the Highways Service and presents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual looking to make a real difference to local communities. The role is based at Witchford Highways Depot, working across both Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council.

The purpose of the role is to implement and advise on the maintenance, protection, improvement and promotion of access opportunities (Rights of Way, permissive access and other access) in line with the Council’s statutory duties and wider corporate objectives. It involves working with Community Groups, Partners and dealing with customer correspondence from Parish Councils and members of the public. You will be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, and with your committed approach to service provision you will enjoy problem-solving and working with a wide range of partners and stake-holders, including landowners, elected members and partner organisations which will enable you to deliver results that provide effective value for money and outstanding outcomes for the people of Cambridgeshire.

Cambridgeshire is the fastest growing county in the country, representing an exciting opportunity to assist in the negotiation of improvements to the public rights of way network through the planning process and other opportunities with landowners to make a real, lasting difference to communities.

We are looking for a candidate who has practical experience of working with Rights of Way and access issues and associated capital and revenue budget management. You will be responsible for dealing with all Rights of Way in the East and Fenland area of the County. You will be expected to deal with issues relating to Rights of Way, liaise with customers and stakeholders and attend meetings outside of normal working hours.

Ideally you will be educated at least to A level/GCSE standard and/or have extensive relevant knowledge and experience, including a sound understanding of the relevant legislation. However experience of working in an access-related role aptitude for the role will also be a strong consideration. Training can be provided. The post will be based in the Witchford Highways Depot, but the ability to travel to different locations is essential.
