The Role

The Economy and Infrastructure Directorate provides services which are focus on leading Kirklees out of recession and creating attractive, vibrant places for people to live, work and play. Our directorate touches the lives of everyone who lives and works in or travels through Kirklees.

You will be part of a team providing business and administrative support across the directorate. There are two roles available to apply for. The first is based within the Planning service, and the other is located with the Economic Resilience team. Both roles are based on the Civic Centre campus.

The Planning service plays a key role in supporting the development of new housing and industry across the area and the Council receives large numbers of planning applications every year. You will play a key part in processing these applications and you will have contact with a wide range of internal and external customers. The role based in the Economic Resilience team includes supporting colleagues working in Housing and Regeneration, Business and Skills and Transportation projects.

Both roles require applicants with strong IT skills, experience of using databases and other systems that are used to process information. The ability to be able to work in a rapid and accurate manner is essential and experience of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel is also required. Experience of the using the SAP procurement system would also be beneficial. You should be able to demonstrate business and administration skills to NVQ 2 level and have a standard of literacy that enables you to produce routine documentation.

The ability to deal with a wide range of customers both in face-to-face situations and over the telephone is also important as the ability to provide excellent customer care. Both posts also involve some work on the public reception desk in Civic Centre 3, which is a key Council building.
