Bath and North East Somerset is a unitary authority in the heart of the West of England, serving a population of c190,000. Sitting across the green belt from the Bristol outskirts to the borders of Wiltshire, it covers areas of outstanding natural beauty and historical interest, as well as facing the challenges of mixed urban and rural living.
Our Chief Executive, Ashley Ayre, is retiring in the summer. With a new Administration elected on 2nd May, this is an ideal time for an ambitious and resilient individual to propel us into the next exciting phase, playing a key role in our authority and across the region.
With good political and officer relationships, a shared sense of purpose and strong partnerships, we have delivered difficult decisions compassionately, reshaped the organisation and achieved significant success - including a good Children & Young People’s Service with elements of outstanding for SEND. Our new Chief Executive can build on this platform but will need to push ahead with further significant budget savings and focus on key challenges, such as managing increased demand, affordable housing and the declared climate emergency.
We are open as to your background, but our starting point is your track record of success and outstanding leadership credentials to inspire and motivate. Plus, you’ll have an understanding of the context in which local government operates – and most of all sharing our values of strong social purpose.
