Newham is a borough brimming with energy, opportunity and diversity. As London continues to move East, it is a microcosm of everything the Capital has to offer. As a council we have a renewed sense of purpose resulting from change at all levels including a relatively new Elected Mayor and Chief Executive.
Our children and young people are at the heart of the Mayor and administration’s ambitious plans. We have listened to feedback from staff, partners and regulators and have changed the way we operate to give children’s services the focus and resources they need to deliver improvement. This includes the reinstatement of a statutory Director of Children’s Services as well as the creation of a Newham’s Children and Young People’s Commissioner to make Newham a truly child centred borough.
As DCS you will lead the full range of functions including social care and safeguarding, education, SEND 0-25 and commissioning. You will drive the action plan resulting from our Ofsted inspection, helping us move at pace from ‘inadequate’ to a place where all children and young people can achieve their goals.
There is a real and urgent job to be done, not just in leading the directorate, but contributing to the significant ambition across the whole council as a pivotal part of the new Corporate Management Team. As an experienced DCS considering a new challenge we think there is no better place for your talents and aspirations.
