The Post

The apprentice will work in the Homeless Housing Services Team.

As a team we work to ensure that, wherever possible households are prevented from becoming homeless, by securing their residence in their current accommodation and to present a range of housing options to resolve their housing needs.

The post holder will gain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedures on homelessness and to provide innovative advice and solutions when dealing with complex and difficult cases.

Key functionalities

1. To develop basic knowledge of homelessness legislation, concerning the Council’s statutory duties.

2. To develop basic knowledge of the different housing options available to service users seeking accommodation.

3. To help maintain accurate written and computer records, reports, & other monitoring information as required in connection with the various duties undertaken, and keep other records necessary to provide an adequate management information data base

4. To extract information from systems and provide reports to managers as part of the service, departmental, council, partnership and national reporting requirements.

You will gain hands-on experience of homelessness and housing by working as part of a team and assisting in the delivery of a quality service to vulnerable individuals.

Simultaneously undertaking a comprehensive study programme towards the Level 3 in Housing / Property Management Apprenticeship. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills which will be an asset to the council and your career. Our apprenticeship scheme offers significant assistance with training and provides the opportunity to improve skills for future career opportunities.

The Person

This is a front line role so we are looking for confident and friendly individuals ready to make a difference for our customers. Keen to learn, you will demonstrate good communication skills, an understanding of good customer service and an interest in a career within Housing. With the ability to problem solve and grasp legislative concepts.

You will also need to show your interest in local government and the delivery of public services. We will also be looking for a flexible and positive approach to work.

Qualifications required

Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

Good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.
