Sandwell Adult and Family Learning Service are recruiting a permanent full-time adult English specialist tutor to join our existing team of good and outstanding staff.
The English teaching role is essential to meet the growing demands of our diverse community. You will need excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and a commitment to driving up the quality of the English curriculum. You will be required to work some evenings and Saturdays at various points of the year e.g. during October when we take part in the national Family Learning Festival. Close team work with the Maths and ICT curriculum team will be critical to the post, as well as working within community learning to embed literacy skills across a wide range of subjects.
You will be expected to deliver and assess Functional Skills English and community-based learning to adults and families from entry level through to level 2; teaching 7 classes per week. It would be beneficial if you also have experience delivering GCSE English language to adults. You will need to evidence your English teaching hours for the past academic year, which must exceed 400 and hold an observation grade of good or outstanding. Knowledge of Ofsted, SAR, moderation, standardisation and RARPA would be a distinct advantage.
Sandwell Adult and Family Learning Service has 3 main learning centres across Sandwell and the successful applicant will be based at our Hateley Heath centre in West Bromwich. You will be required to travel between centres daily and travelling expenses can be claimed according to the SMBC approved mileage scheme. The post offers a competitive salary of £24,313 - £28,785, (£12.60 - £14.92 per hour), and a full package of benefits from SMBC. Successful candidates will need to complete a DBS application.
The successful applicant will be required to hold a minimum level 4 teaching qualification, a subject qualification in English at least at level 4 and maths at least at level 2. Applications are particularly welcome from adult tutors that have experience of working within other ACL organisations. Please note that the majority of our delivery at Sandwell Adult and Family learning is with adults aged 19+.
