This job is temporary up to 12 months to cover a secondment.

The service offers a comprehensive cross tenure housing options service to people in housing need. The focus for the service is on assisting people to find, keep, maintain and live independently in quality, affordable homes.

As a Housing Access Officer you will provide customers with appropriate advice and information promptly and professionally.  You will guide and support customers through assisted access utilising appropriate systems. You will deal with customers with housing needs, existing private tenants, landlords and home owners.  You will be required to make initial assessments of housing register applications on low level housing needs and refer appropriate cases to specialist officers.

Requirements for the job:

  • An awareness of Housing issues;
  • An awareness of a range of legislation and policies relating to property conditions, tenancies and homelessness as well as an awareness of welfare entitlements;
  • Ability to deal calmly with distressed customers both on the phone and face to face;
  • Proficient in Microsoft office packages;
  • Numeracy and literacy skills.
