About us

The London boroughs of Kingston and Sutton have come together to create an ambitious and forward-looking shared service, covering Regulatory Services and Highways & Transport functions.

With a focus on delivering high quality frontline services, this innovative partnership plays its role in creating sustainable communities, with a high quality environment that can be enjoyed by all. We are looking for two passionate, committed and enthusiastic professionals to join us as we continue to develop and shape the service.

About the role

As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will be part of a small multidisciplinary team delivering a range of statutory environmental functions across both boroughs. The work of the team is varied and includes air quality, environmental permitting, land contamination, acoustics and other related specialist areas of work.

The team is committed and hard-working, involved in both proactive and reactive work across the specialist disciplines but there may also be an opportunity to experience the wider work of the service to the right candidate.

We are able to offer a series of unique, fulfilling and exciting challenges in a dynamic working environment where quick thinking, innovation and creativity is needed just as much as the energy and desire to get things done.

About you

The Shared Service is a professional service requiring technical knowledge and expertise. We are seeking someone with wide experience of the Pollution Control discipline. We would like to hear from you if you are an Environmental Health professional or graduate in a related subject and can demonstrate experience of assessing and commenting upon reports into land contamination, providing general pollution control advice, including commenting on planning applications and dealing with noise and nuisance complaints from commercial and industrial sources.

You will be organised, diligent and flexible, with good communication skills and able to work on your own initiative. You will have an eye for detail and be comfortable working under pressure. The Shared Service works across two boroughs with offices based in the attractive Kingston town centre and the leafy suburb of Carshalton with options to be based in either, offering agile and flexible working.

As part of our team, you will benefit from a commitment to your professional and personal development, a generous leave entitlement, the opportunity to work flexibly, attractive working spaces, and up-to-date messaging and video technology that fosters networking and collaboration. You will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of cases and projects, enabling you to develop your learning and experience. In addition Kingston council offers a town centre retail and restaurant discount scheme and access to discounted leisure facilities.

About the Councils

The Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Sutton are key partners and have adopted an approach based on strategic collaboration. This has already resulted in a number of shared services including ICT, HR and this Environment Service with further opportunities being explored.
