SMBC – Events and Programme Co-ordinators

Events @ Sandwell

With a rich and diverse culture, Sandwell Borough is home to award-winning parks and leisure centres, high-performing libraries, an iconic range of museums and heritage sites, playing fields and green open spaces – the ‘jewel’ in the crown being Sandwell Valley Country Park.

As part of our place making and growth agenda, we have ambitious plans to raise the profile of Sandwell as a great place to live, visit, work and invest. Events @ Sandwell is a new initiative by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council to champion culture across the Borough - within our six towns and throughout all our services and communities – delivering real social and economic benefits and creating a lasting legacy that supports and inspires local communities and the region as a whole.

As part of this ambition we are looking for two creative and energetic Events and Programme

Co-ordinators to support the development, co-ordination and promotion of an expanding annual programme of high profile events, festivals and experiences. These posts will be a crucial event management role for Sandwell Borough and our partners, contributing to the delivery of a Visitor Growth Strategy, acting as a co-ordinator between Council departments, external suppliers and local commissioners, as well as ensuring events and experiences across the Borough and within the towns are reflective of the Council’s 2030 Vision ambitions and delivering the requirements of the Safety and Advisory Group.

This role has a wide remit and a limited budget, so it is essential that the person responsible is creative, diligent and resourceful with excellent project management skills and the ability to support cultivation and stewardship across fundraising and towards developing sustainable income streams.

The successful candidate will require excellent communications skills and a high level of attention to detail. You will be a motivated self-starter, with the ability to work on several complex tasks simultaneously whilst remaining calm under pressure. Comfortable with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, you will enjoy working autonomously and as part of a team.

These roles are initially based on a five-year fixed term – however, subject to success, it is envisaged there will be an ongoing need for the roles – and in return for your dedication and enthusiasm we can offer a varied and interesting workload and a genuine commitment to your career development.

The job descriptions and person specifications for these roles are attached.

Interviews will take place on:  6 and 7 August 2019
