Closing date

The Children and Families Act became statutory on 1st September 2014.  This brought about significant changes to the way that we provide for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We are looking for a SEND Deputy Manager to support the Manager and play a key role in improving the outcomes for our children and young people with SEND. You will be joining the SENDACT Team at an exciting time as we develop our ways of working and our person centred approach to supporting children and young people with SEND and their parents and carers.

You will work within the legal requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 to ensure:

  • Coordinated, person centred, outcome focussed and holistic Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment, planning and review.
  • Concise, accessible and high quality EHC Plans that identify appropriate provision and support and are forward looking, with planning for key transition points.
  • Statutory compliance including statutory timescales.

You must be a self–motivated and organised individual with the ability to work as part of a busy team and independently. You must have an awareness and understanding of the impact of SEND on individuals and their families and you must be passionate and committed to the positive impact the EHC needs assessment, planning and provision can have on a child and young person’s access to education and preparation for adult life.

You will also have:

  • Proven leadership experience of managing a large team or similar, ideally within a children & young people setting.
  • The ability to take a strategic lead in workforce and service planning and development.
  • A detailed working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, The Children & Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years.
  • A clear understanding and awareness of the impact of SEND on individuals and their families.
  • Experience of multi-agency working and able to demonstrate leadership skills in a multi-agency setting.
  • Experience and knowledge of budget preparation and financial/budgetary management and control.
  • The ability to interpret and present data for a wide range of audiences.
  • The ability to make evidence based decisions, applying legislation and local policy fairly and consistently.
  • Knowledge to commission appropriate, cost effective education packages and placements, ensuring efficient use of resources, quality assurance and appropriate challenge.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a vehicle for all or most of the time.  It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence (exceptions may be made for disabled candidates).

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for this job.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

In order to be shortlisted for this job please demonstrate how you meet the Person Checklist as detailed on the attached Job Profile.  CV's will not be accepted.
