An exciting opportunity to join the newly configured mental health service in Brent and be part of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team based in Kilburn

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

This position will be based in one of our locality based teams or statutory Social Care Team serving the Borough of Brent serving a diverse population of service users with mental health needs. Mental Health Services in Brent are provided in integrated teams managed by Central North West London Mental Health Trust in partnership with the Local Authority. The Mental Health Teams have recently been updated to reflect a recovery based approach to working with service users to enhance their recovery and wellbeing.

The duties include comprehensive assessments of need and care planning to address health and social need in a collaborative and empowering manner. As a Care Coordinator you will sit alongside other Social Workers, Community Psychiatric Nurses and Occupational Therapists. The role is supported by support workers, employment specialists and peer support workers working together to improve service users lives.

Social Care is firmly embedded in the Community Mental Health Teams and social workers have a clear identity supported by Senior Social Work staff within the team and Social Work forums. Social Work expertise is highly valued within the multi-disciplinary team and opportunities for training and development are available both through the Local Authority and the Trust.

We are actively recruiting AMHPs at present due to recent retirement and the AMHP role is well embedded and supported within the service.

Unfortunately we are unable to recruit newly qualified social workers at this time due to our ASYE programme in Adult Mental Health currently being at capacity.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be a social worker with experience of working within Mental Health Services who is committed to the Recovery model and skilled in assessment and care planning. The candidate will be an effective team player who will contribute a clear social care perspective to the expertise within the team. S/he will be skilled at building effective working relationships with service users, families and carers and working within a framework of collaboration and support to recognise and build on strengths and assets.

The candidate will be confident in prioritising work and responding flexibly to changing situations, s/he will work effectively within the Care Programme Approach framework to review service user need and work towards clear goals and outcomes.

Closing Date: 21 July (23:00)

Assessment & Interview Date: tbc
