The Greater London Authority (GLA) is home to the Mayor and London Assembly. The Mayor is responsible for making London a better place for everyone who visits, lives and works in the capital. The London Assembly holds the Mayor to account on behalf of Londoners.

Following the appointment last year of Mary Harpley, our new Chief Officer, we have reconfigured the Authority’s leadership team. Operating at the heart of London government, our Executive Director will lead the Authority’s staff and support the Mayor and the London Assembly. This is a unique opportunity to influence across London government and make real changes that affect the capital.

A brand new role, you will assume responsibility for programmes of work that affect the lives of every Londoner.    Working with a wide range of partners, you will be accountable for leading on skills and employment, health, education and youth, communities and social policy, food, community sport and Team London, our exceptional volunteers that show the world the best that London has to offer

Central to success for this role will be outstanding relationship management skills, credibility at the most senior levels and the ability to assimilate complex policy. You will bring a highly successful track record of operating in politically sensitive settings and of working closely with senior officials. Above all, you must be a highly experienced and inspirational leader with a passion for maintaining London’s status as the greatest city in the world.

We are seeking candidates from a broad range of backgrounds who are able to demonstrate a clear commitment to promoting diversity, equality and inclusion. London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects this at all levels. We are committed to being an inclusive employer and welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We are happy to consider flexible working arrangements and welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as the role is open to job share.
