Annual Canvass 2019

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

The Annual Canvass is currently taking place across the Borough and requires all residents to notify the Electoral Services department who should be included on the electoral register.

All residents will have been sent two Household Enquiry Forms which outline who is currently registered at their property. The law requires that if a household does not respond, the council must send a canvasser to the property to collect the information in person.

Canvassers are therefore employed throughout the Borough to visit residents who have not returned their Household Enquiry Form.

All canvassers will be given a tablet to take door-to-door to collect the household information. Full training on how the Annual Canvass is carried out, using the tablet and how the software works will be provided prior to appointment of the post. Please note attendance at training is mandatory for this role.

The Person

Canvassers must be available from 16 September to 28 October to visit their allocated properties.

This is a flexible role as it can be carried out when you are available and is a great opportunity to earn extra money prior to the Christmas period. If you have a full time job, you are welcome to canvass your allocated areas during the evenings and weekends where possible.

As this role is a commission based position, you will be paid for the number of correctly completed forms submitted. The Electoral Services team usually allocate around 500 properties per canvasser, though they may allocate additional properties/areas if you feel you are able to take on a higher work load.

Please note that to apply for this role you must be over the age of 18.

We will not be accepting CVs or applications via email.

Closing Date: 7th August 2019 (23:00)

Additional Information

Brent Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this and therefore encourage applications from all sections of the community.

Applications are particularly welcome from people with disabilities and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender) applicants as they are under-represented across the council.

All organisations and individuals who work with children and young people, or are involved in providing services for them have a duty to safeguard and promote their welfare.

We are committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Before you join Brent Council, you will need to provide your National Insurance (NI) number and undergo a Home Office Standard I.D. check.

Please note CVs will not be considered as part of your application for this position.
