Job Details

Brent made the bold decision to bring back its ALMO in 2017 and things have been going well since. The service has been redesigned to focus on delivering the service residents want. We want to ensure people live in well maintained homes and estates and we are prepared to put in the required level of investment to achieve this. We know cash alone won’t deliver the changes our residents want to see, we need excellent people who have the right experience, knowledge and attitude to make the cash work and there’s where you come in.

Our Property Services team is looking for a Principle Quantity Surveyor, to deliver sector leading customer experience for Brent tenants and leaseholders.

The Post

As the Quantity Surveyor you will work directly with the Principal Quantity Surveyor to monitor the delivery and operation of contracts for the management of multi-million pound services including: repairs, maintenance, voids, compliance and construction work.

This will include the provision of commercial, financial, risk management, procurement and contractual advice to ensure contract processes deliver agreed outcomes for the Council, residents and stakeholders that meet the Council’s objectives and affordability targets.  The postholder will be responsible for monitoring expenditure against schedule of rates and quoted works as well as analysing and assessing value for money on quoted works delivered by Property Services.

The role will include supporting the Contract and Commissioning manager to act as the client or lead on the production and negotiation of contracts with contractors, suppliers, in house departments, consultants and other commissioners.

You will also provide advice and support to the council on all aspects of contracting and sub-contracting and support other sections and departments and their teams in contract discussions and negotiations. So you will also need to establish a rapport with our contract managers, as well a confident individual who is comfortable with our contractors, to ensure we consistently achieve value for money.

The Person

We’re looking for candidates with experience of developing effective contract specifications and documents and have demonstrable knowledge and experience of the commercial or social housing background.

You will have experience of negotiating effectively to achieve positive commercial outcome and an understanding of strategic planning to deliver housing objectives. As well as a good rapport with our contract managers, contractors and the property services team.

You should have a good understanding and knowledge of relevant housing legislation, including in relation to construction, maintenance and service provision and an excellent understanding of the financial and technical aspects of contracts and contract accounting.
