Do your experience and qualifications show your understanding of young people with visual impairment and how they learn and experience the world?  Could you share this effectively with school staff, families and young people with visual impairment to help meet their needs? 

The Advisory Service for Visual Impairment (Bexley) provides support to young people with visual impairment and their schools and families. Due to the retirement of the current post-holder an opportunity has arisen for a well-qualified and talented teacher to take on an exciting role within this well-established and successful team.  As Specialist Advisory Teacher for visual impairment you will be providing guidance, advice, training and support to school staff on meeting the needs of children and young people with visual impairment as well as working directly with young people with visual impairment. You will work with staff and families sensitively, as well as at times, one-to-one with pupils to help develop their understanding of this complex condition. The post is supported by a well-qualified habilitation officer. This post lies within the Early Intervention Team and Specialist Teaching Service in Bexley, ensuring collaborative working with specialist teachers and teaching assistants as well as with educational psychologists.

This is an exciting opening for enthusiastic and committed teacher to extend and develop their expertise in an advisory capacity.  We are looking for an individual with in-depth knowledge of visual impairment and the needs of pupils with visual impairment; with the understanding and creativity to enable them to enjoy and achieve; and the ability to share good practice effectively with others. 

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills.  You will be flexible, committed to supporting other professionals, self-motivated, energetic and patient. 

A qualification as a QTVI is essential. Extensive experience of working with children and young people with visual impairment in an educational setting is also essential. Naturally, you will be provided with additional, relevant training and support to make the most of this opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young people with visual impairment and their families.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service
