In Kirklees our ambition for our children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is the same as for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years, at school and in college and lead happy and fulfilled lives. This role is central to improving outcomes for our children and young people with SEND and helping us to achieve our ambition.

You will be passionate and committed to the positive impact the EHC assessment, planning and provision can have on a child and young person’s access to education and preparation for adult life. You will need to be resilient in the face of high emotions, complex situations and competing priorities.

You will have overall responsibility for a caseload and you will work closely with children, young people and parents/carers to ensure effective Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment, planning and review. You will have a clear understanding and awareness of the impact of SEND on individuals and families, and an ability to capably deal with conflict and negotiate agreements.

An excellent communicator, you will use and produce EHC plans and coordinate assessments, supporting the SEND Assessment & Commissioning Officer in ensuring high quality EHC assessments are produced and statutory timescales are met.

You will capably and efficiently manage your own workload and meet deadlines, taking responsibility for supporting children and families with a focus on outcomes, always remaining transparent and following correct procedure.

An excellent communicator, you will use and produce EHC plans and coordinate assessments, facilitate meetings and negotiate where necessary and be fair and consistent in your decisions.

An enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check will be required for this job.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
