This is an exciting opportunity to join Newport City Council’s leadership team in a key Strategic Director role.  Following the retirement of the current post holder we are seeking to appoint a visionary leader who can provide resilient, transformational leadership across the Council’s wider corporate agenda, whilst driving forward a high-performing culture within our Social Services and Education portfolio.

The role

In order to deliver against our mission of ‘Improving People’s Lives’ we are seeking an exceptional Strategic Director to help us meet the needs of our communities effectively and efficiently. At Newport we care about the quality of life for everyone across the city and are committed to providing the best possible public services for the people of Newport. This role is key to achieving our aims.

Although the statutory role of Director of Social Services is currently attached to this post we are open to making other arrangements if you can’t fulfill this requirement but have other relevant skills to bring to the role. As Strategic Director you will be part of a senior leadership team working with  the Chief Executive and overseeing the crucial work of three service areas –Adults’ Services, Childrens’ Services and  Education

Whilst you will probably have a background in the field of social services or education we would welcome applications from outstanding candidates who may not meet the statutory requirements for holding the function of Director of Social Services.

You

If you can evidence your ability to transform services and improve outcomes, we would like to hear from you, whether you have a background in social services or education. Potential, adaptability and empathy are the qualities we’re looking for. We need someone who wants to develop their strategic leadership skills in a challenging but exciting environment.

You’ll be somebody who engages with, listens to and values the contribution of others. You will have the honesty, integrity and humility combined with the passion, drive and resilience to deliver tangible results.

This truly is a career making opportunity for a natural leader to be at the forefront of change in a city that has always spearheaded progress.

Being part of a collaborative, supportive leadership team you can be assured that there is unlimited scope to use your skills to the fullest and truly thrive.

Application Process

If you’re excited by the prospect of being part of our journey and share our passion, then we encourage you to apply.
