North Yorkshire County Council and Selby District Council are involved in a collaboration project - Better Together. Our two legal teams work very closely together and we’re interested in hearing from ambitious Lawyers, Solicitors and Barristers to join us on either a permanent or fixed term basis- dependent on your circumstances.

The Roles 

The roles we have on offer are to be based primarily at Selby but there is scope to work flexibly and from Northallerton. To give you some insight into all of our roles please read the job profiles below and please state your preference on your application. 

Lawyers - Business and Environment Team 

The Business and Environment Team deals principally with planning, highways and public rights of way matters. The role we are recruiting to is to focus on planning at Selby District Council, however there will be the opportunity to advise on other matters including, highway delivery schemes and strategic development across Selby and North Yorkshire. 

Ideally with experience in planning law you will provide routine advice and support on matters such as planning applications and appeals, attending and advising at Planning Committee, responding to Judicial review applications and representing the Council at hearings and inquiries.

Solicitors - Regulatory 

With both councils having ambitious plans, we are seeking a Solicitors with experience of range of regulatory experience ideally in one or more areas of housing, licensing, environmental health, homeless, anti-social behaviour law or prosecutions. 

This is a part time role, but ideally we require someone who is able to provide clear advice to officers and members, attend as legal adviser at relevant Council committees and can conduct cases in the County and Magistrates Court.
