We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly skilled Approved Mental Health Professional as the Assistant Team Manager of the Richmond and Wandsworth AMHP Service.  The AMHP service works across the two boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth in line with the shared staffing arrangements (SSA) for adult social services across the two boroughs.  The main office is based  at Springfield Hospital in Tooting with a smaller office located in the Twickenham Civic Centre.

We are a busy service offering varied and stimulating practice opportunities for AMHPs due to our diverse inner-city population and the range of specialist mental health inpatient services offered in our local area.  The AMHP service works closely with the secondary mental health provider for the two boroughs, the South West London and St Georges NHS Trust as well as the Met Police, London Ambulance Service and HMP Wandsworth.  Our service is highly respected by our partner organisations and commended for its timely response to referrals.

The Service is staffed mainly by full-time AMHPs supported on  rotational basis by AMHPs based in our mental health social work teams. Additionally,  our AMHPs are supported  by a dedicated administrator and an AMHP support worker.

The ATM role combines practice leadership and management responsibilites whilst staying grounded in AMHP practice.  The ATM works closely with the Team Manager to ensure the delivery of an effective and person-centred service for adults with mental health social care needs and their carers.  The ATM supports the management of quality, team performance and ensures risk assessment and management are at the forefront of the team’s work.

You’ll need to be an experienced and confident AMHP who can provide practice leadership and supervision to the service’s AMHPs.  You will expect high practice standards of yourself and of your staff and will role model the values and behaviour expected of our AMHPs and social workers. You will enjoy supporting and developing AMHP practice along the continuum of experience from AMHP trainees to experienced AMHPs.  You will be confident in supporting the team’s relationships with key partners and advocating on behalf of service users and their carers to ensure that AMHPs can effectively carry out their work.

In return, what we can offer you is:

  • An excellent remuneration package
  • An excellent package of training and professional development for AMHPs offered across local AMHP training consortium as well a comprehensive training offer covering adult social care, safeguarding, and strength-based practice including membership of the Adult Social Care Academy.  Individual and group supervision including facilitated AMHP reflective practice sessions Flexible working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  These could include compressed hours, part-time working, and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.  A range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments.
