The University of Huddersfield is one of the UK’s most successful, innovative and modern institutions. Recognised as a gold-rated university by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), it won the first Global Teaching Excellence Award in 2017, ranking 1st again in England this year for professionally qualified teaching staff. A major agent of social mobility it has continued to transform over the last ten years - going from strength to strength in pursuit of its mission to be an inspiring and innovative University of international renown.

Our aspirations are underpinned by a very strong financial platform. We continue to invest significantly in our operational and support services, alongside our student experience and our academic staff, and are now seeking to appoint a new University Secretary. A critical member of the University senior management team, the role reports to the Chair of Council (our Board) on governance matters and to the Vice–Chancellor on executive issues.  S/he will take the lead on all matters relating to legal, compliance and risk; at the same time ensuring we remain at the forefront of delivering effective governance that enhances our organisational performance.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of providing high level strategic advice to a range of senior stakeholders, in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity.  Politically astute they will be well used to working in rapidly changing, policy-driven environments; with a strong understanding of statutory, regulatory and accountability frameworks. Outstanding communication skills, excellent judgement and the ability to maintain and develop productive relationships, with varied internal and external audiences, will also be vital.

A candidate brief will be available shortly.
