In April 2020 Buckinghamshire will become the UK’s newest unitary council and the residents of Buckinghamshire will be served by Buckinghamshire Council. Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connected – only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

The 2016 business case ‘Modernising Local Government in Buckinghamshire’ set out the ambition for a single council for Buckinghamshire, and in March 2019 the Government announced the decision to replace Buckinghamshire’s county council and the four district councils with a brand new county wide unitary council.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for exceptional individuals who have the drive, ambition and customer focus to help to shape what the future will look like for the residents and service users of Buckinghamshire.

This is a unique and unrivalled opportunity for senior leaders who want to work with our new Chief Executive Rachael Shimmin and alongside ambitious councillors. We are committed to ensuring service continuity through transition, bringing about transformational change, improvement for residents and delivering the benefits identified in the business case.

If you believe that you have the ambition and skills to join us on this journey, Rachael would actively encourage you to have a confidential discussion about the role.
