Camden has produced a bold and ambitious draft Transport Strategy that sets out our vision for transport in the Borough through to 2041. The Strategy contains seven core objectives which include: transforming our streets and places to enable walking and cycling, delivering a sustainable transport system and streets that are inclusive and accessible for all, reducing all road casualties in Camden and progressing towards zero Killed or Seriously Injured, and reducing the impact of transport-based emissions and noise in Camden.

About you

We are looking for a highly motivated Transport Planner to help us develop and deliver a variety of policies and measures which contribute towards our objectives. As part of this role you will assist in the development of a wide range of transport programmes, including active travel initiatives, Healthy Streets projects, and travel planning.

In particular, you’ll lead on commenting on, and monitoring/reviewing, Travel Plans secured through new developments to ensure sustainable travel actions and targets within those Plans are met. You will also help deliver bespoke walking, cycling and public transport improvements secured through s106 contributions from the planning process. You’ll also lead on the expansion of Cycle Hire programmes across the Borough, help deliver Healthy School Streets being rolled out in Camden, support the implementation of other transformational Healthy Streets schemes, and the development and delivery of an innovative new cargo bike project.

You’ll have previous experience of working in a transport/planning/accessible transport environment and a minimum of higher certificate or equivalent in a subject related to transport planning/traffic engineering/parking. (Candidates with different qualifications but demonstrating suitable experience in this or related work would also be considered).

You’ll have good knowledge of transport planning as well as an understanding of the wider context of traffic and transport including air quality, land use planning, urban design, sustainability, and smarter travel. Alongside this, you’ll possess a good understanding of regional and national policy and the legislative framework.
