Take ownership of the property strategies that define Essex's landscape.

At Essex County Council, we are on an exciting path. Committed to delivering industry-leading standards to the 1.4 million residents who live in this incredible region, we are reimagining how best to deliver our services. Underpinning everything that we do with our core values of being efficient, effective, proactive and customer-focussed, we are passionate about enabling and empowering both our local communities and our colleagues to achieve their goals.

Central to our ongoing transformation programme is the Property and Facilities team. This well-respected department is responsible for managing and maintaining a £1.7billion estate, and it is here that you could explore your potential. With your work impacting on around 1,500 sites and 350 buildings including County Hall and the county's libraries, you will be tasked with leading a number of fascinating corporate and service-driven projects. Applying your knowledge of property management to these challenges, you will see to it that the council's strategies are aligned with creative money-saving initiatives. Crucially, you will ensure that our high standards are maintained while commissioning projects and implementing the relevant strategies. We empower our people to work innovatively, so you will excel in this role if you are able to hit the ground running. Ideally qualified (or part-qualified) as a Chartered Surveyor (RICS), or with a degree and experience in Property Management (or similar), you will understand the intricacies of working for a property team in a local government environment. As you will be working with a multitude of departments, contractors and delivery agents, you will have great communication and relationship management skills, and you will be keen to grow and develop your professional skills within our team.

This is a unique opportunity to join a team who are genuinely enthusiastic about their work. Many of our colleagues are local people who are passionate about delivering great initiatives that will directly benefit their own neighbourhoods - and with the added bonus of working close to home, you can expect an exceptional work/life balance. In fact, it is this commitment to your wellbeing that makes us such a desirable employer. Join us, and you will have the scope to work flexibly, with at least one day from home each week. Furthermore, we can offer you generous annual leave, life assurance, access to our desirable pension scheme, volunteering leave, travel discounts - plus a number of optional elected benefits such as discounted private healthcare, tax-free childcare savings and more.
