An Excellent Opportunity...

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

We are looking for a creative and experienced Urban Practitioner to deliver a new Masterplan that can realise our ambitions for regeneration and growth. We want to hear from people passionate about urban design and the role that regeneration and planning can play in creating new places and effect positive change.

Brent is one of the most dynamic inner-outer London boroughs, and we want to maximise the opportunities that growth will bring for both new and existing communities. You will lead on a comprehensive Masterplan for the Neasden Stations Growth Area. New employment, infrastructure, place-making and at least 2,000 homes will transform the area, delivering new jobs, new homes, improved public realm, and take advantage of the planned West London Orbital Line.

A Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) will then codify the new urban design framework and principles, and shape development proposals within a coherent vision for a better connected, safer and greener place. You will be working alongside award winning teams in the Regeneration Department.

The Person

Working with colleagues in Regeneration and Spatial Planning, and in collaboration with the Greater London Authority, West London Alliance and other partners, you will lead on all aspects of the design and drive forward the delivery of the new Masterplan and SPD for the Neasden Stations Growth Area. You will use your extensive experience and technical skills in urban masterplanning, design and planning, work effectively within the organisation and with external partners, and consult with businesses and the community, to set out the vision for a new sustainable place.

You will be responsible for co-ordinating a multidisciplinary in-house project team, procuring and managing external consultants and technical support, and deliver all Masterplan outputs in line with the agreed quality, scope and programme – on time and on budget. You will promote best practice in Urban Masterplanning and take the opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of Brent Council capacity in this area.

Closing Date: 22 September 2019 (23:00)

Additional Information

Applications are particularly welcome from people with disabilities and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender) applicants as they are under-represented across the council.

All organisations and individuals who work with children and young people, or are involved in providing services for them have a duty to safeguard and promote their welfare.

We are committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Before you join Brent Council, you will need to provide your National Insurance (NI) number and undergo a Home Office Standard I.D. check.

Please note CVs will not be considered as part of your application for this position.
