Transform young lives with your visionary ideas

At Essex County Council, we are focussed on investing in the young people who will be such an important part in our future. The way in which we support them now, will ultimately impact on the adults that they grow up to be - which is where you come in.

This is a unique opportunity to explore your boldest ideas, to craft creative services for young people who live in North Essex and work with young people and communities to develop youth work projects. We want to ensure that our young people have somewhere safe and inspirational to go after school and at the weekends.

You will have plenty of support to get your ideas off the ground, building on our recently-conducted interviews with young people in which we asked what types of services they want. Their responses have provided us with an excellent base from which to work, so you will have our full support as you embed yourself in each community, and design services that will enhance their social skills and understanding of the world.

Every day will present you with new challenges, such as training members of the extended team, and assessing risks associated with your proposed activities. You will therefore excel in this role if:
  • You have experience of developing services for young people (in either a professional or voluntary context) and are passionate about working with young people in rural communities.
  • You have a JNC recognised Youth Work qualification (essential)
  • You are able to work flexibly (including evenings, weekends and residentials), with your own car and a full driving license.
  • You have exceptional communication, influencing and motivational skills, with the capacity to provide persuasive reports and presentations.
  • You are a team-player who is committed to challenging prejudice and ignorance.
Qualification certificates should be brought to interview.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained. For further information on the DBS update service please go to https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service.
