Please note this is a fixed term maternity cover for 1 year. The role is part time working 22.2 hours per week. Therefore the actual pro rata salary is £16,362 per annum.

As a Work Experience Co-ordinator, you will source, maintain and develop professional and purposeful relationships with businesses across Essex, to encourage them to participate in a work experience programme and source suitable work experience placements for young people throughout Essex.

The role requires excellent communication skills with an aptitude for building and maintaining relationships with businesses and young people seeking work experience in Essex. A flexible approach and the ability to find creative solutions to respond to business clients and young people are essential in this role.

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for developing and managing external client relationships with employers to ensure that all work experience placements are appropriate for young people. Using business development, marketing techniques and networking to source work experience opportunities.
  • Responsible for visiting and undertaking a full risk assessment of the environment to ensure the suitability of work placements for young people. Implementing measures to ensure standards are upheld and checking these are met to safeguard young people.
  • Undertaking visits to organisations to build and develop client relationships and ensure the suitability of placements including Health and Safety checks. Responsible for maintaining contact with employers to obtain feedback and take appropriate action to resolve any issues as they arise
  • Responsible for developing a good understanding of organisations, their industry, what they do and their work culture and environment, to enable suitable matching of young people to work experience placements across Essex.
  • Responsible for meeting targets and deadlines for business development activities and placements in order to fulfil externally awarded contracts.
  • Responsible for face to face meetings with young people, to ensure that work placements are suitable for both parties.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining the business database to ensure that all insurances and placements are valid before placing young people to ensure appropriate safeguarding.
  • Responsible for submitting all paperwork and systems in accordance with Youth Service processes and procedures to meet externally funded contracts and draw down appropriate funding streams.
  • Responsible for the delivery of high quality one to one interventions and group work through employability and work experience workshops, that are cost effective, planned, actioned and evaluated.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Possesses a QCF level 3 Information Advice or Guidance (IAG) qualification, or a relevant professional qualification focussed on working with young people in work experience (e.g. HSS8 in Health & Safety in the Workplace), or a deep understanding of the employability issues affecting young people.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, with good knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Proven experience of sales or recruitment, business development, marketing techniques and networking in order to attract business from client companies.
  • Experience of securing appropriate, safe work experience opportunities to set timescales, demonstrating the ability to make assessments and judgements of safe and suitable working practices with external businesses, imposing remedial actions and signing off any concerns.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, achieving results in a time, resource efficient and solution focussed manner. Demonstrating a flexible approach, with excellent time management skills and the ability to work creatively to respond to young people's and contract needs.
