We’re Kirklees – Come and Join our team

We’re on an ambitious journey and looking for passionate and committed social work professionals to join our teams which are already transforming our children and young people services.

Our last Ofsted inspection highlighted our progress stating:

"Progress has been achieved through increased corporate commitment and investment in services, clear and focused leadership, strengthening of partnerships for example the duty and advice team, and improved workforce stability and engagement.

Children who need help and protection are now recognised, and risk of significant harm is quickly responded to. ”

We are not complacent and continue our hard work on our improvement plan to ensure that we offer the best service to children and families in Kirklees.

Our progress so far is clear:

  • The social work teams are now close to full complement and all leadership and management posts are filled with permanent staff.
  • Advanced Practitioners provide more support for social workers and more focus on developing practice.
  • Working in locality teams and building effective relationships with partners.
  • A remuneration package which reflects the challenges of the role.

We are looking for exceptional Team Managers with a proven track record in managing both practitioners and case related performance. You will have a strong understanding of what best practice looks like and be passionate about inspiring and improving children’s lives, as well as the continuous professional development of social work practitioners.  A creative and flexible approach to work and the drive and motivation to work with families whose needs are complex is key. Good people skills are a must.

Working strategically as part of a wider management team to design and implement service changes and improvement, you will have opportunities to help shape the service to ensure children are protected; you will be accountable for the development and delivery of a complex range of key services in line with policy, best practice, professional standards and legislation, ensuring children are always at the centre of social work practice. As a manager you will provide supervision and opportunities for reflection and analysis, as well as being responsible for the allocation of casework and actively managing caseloads so that our practitioners are able to do the quality child centred work that they want to.

Our Assessment and Intervention Service ensures children, young people and their families receive timely assessments and interventions undertaken by one Social Worker. This provides consistency for everyone and ensures our practitioners really get to know the families they are working with. We have a huge commitment to providing our social workers with exceptional levels of support. This includes working hard to reduce caseloads, ensuring high-quality professional development and achieving the best possible standards of supervision and management. We are also reducing the size of our teams to ensure our practitioners get the support they need.

Our Offer to You

We are pioneering a Restorative Practice approach to social work which involves innovation and locality working with high quality relationships at the heart of our approach. We will ensure that you have high-quality professional development and receive high standards of induction, supervision and management.

We have a bespoke learning and development offer at all levels of social work allowing you access to professional development opportunities enabling you to develop and progress your career. Our well-established career structure also supports us to develop our own managers and leaders.
