Our last Ofsted inspection highlighted our progress stating:

“Progress has been achieved through increased corporate commitment and investment in services, clear and focused leadership, strengthening of partnerships for example the duty and advice team, and improved workforce stability and engagement.

Children who need help and protection are now recognised, and risk of significant harm is quickly responded to." 

We are not complacent and continue our hard work on our improvement plan to ensure that we offer the best service to children and families in Kirklees. This is a new post that will add further weight in supporting our improvement journey.

Our progress so far is clear:

  • The social work teams are now close to full complement and all leadership and management posts are filled with permanent staff.
  • Advanced Practitioners provide more support for social workers and more focus on developing practice.
  • Working in locality teams and building effective relationships with partners.
  • A remuneration package which reflects the challenges of the role.

That’s where you come in. We are looking to recruit a Service Manager to work alongside colleagues in leading and managing our Assessment & Intervention Service.

As part of the management team and working closely with the Head of Service, you’ll work strategically to design and implement service changes and improvement, you will help shape the service to ensure children are safeguarded and have the right permanence plan in place. Your oversight of the development and delivery of a complex service in line with policy, best practice, professional standards and legislation, ensuring children are always at the centre of social work practice will be vital to support our improvement plan.

You’ll be responsible for a number of social work teams and provide line management to Team Managers.  As a manager you will provide supervision and opportunities for reflection making sure your managers do the same. We have a huge commitment to providing our social workers with exceptional levels of support. This includes working hard to reduce caseloads, ensuring high-quality professional development and achieving the best possible standards of supervision and management; we’ll be looking to you to make sure this happens.

As an experienced Social Work manager you will have a proven track record in managing employees, budgets and performance. You will have a strong understanding of what best practice looks like and be passionate about inspiring and improving children’s lives, as well as the continuous professional development of social work practitioners.  A creative and flexible approach to work and the drive and motivation to improve our services are key.  Good people skills are a must.

You must hold an HCPC recognised Social Work Qualification and be registered with the HCPC.
